We have four Walking Tours to introduce you to our history. Each tour takes approximately 1.5 hours and provides a colorful, professionally produced narration of a different aspect of Jacksonville’s history. The narration provides walking directions with instructions on pausing the narrative between historic sites.
If you are using these tours for more than one person it is suggested you determine a method of indicating when members of your group have come to the pauses. Then you can walk to your next destination and re-start the narrative simultaneously. The audio files are in MP3 format. All materials including the audio narrations are protected copyright and are not to be reproduced without the written consent of the Jacksonville Chamber of Commerce.
These tours are also available at no cost from the Visitor Information Center, corner of C & Oregon Streets. Open 10 am – 3 pm most days.
1. Historic Commercial Core – How the town’s businesses developed is very important as to why
Jacksonville survived beyond the initial gold rush.
3. Pioneer Cemetery – The stories told by headstones along with the separate sections of our cemetery are a special legacy which we are proud to share.
4. Woodland Trails – Learn about the flora and fauna of the region, how they were impacted by gold mining activities.
