Madrone Theatre Co reading of “A Child’s Christmas In Wales”
7:00 pm New City Hall (206 North 5th Street) Conference Room
Based on Dylan Thomas’ nostalgic reminiscence of Christmases he experienced as a child, which the Welsh poet wrote and recorded for BBC Radio in the early 1950’s. This rendering has been adapted and directed by Ron Danko of Jacksonville.
The cast includes Lea Worcester, Jois Harkness, and David Gordon—also of Jacksonville, as well as David Sours, of Talent.
Thomas’ reminiscences evoke images of extended family gatherings, children finding creative play in the snow, strange and comical aunties and uncles, and of course the bountiful Christmas feast. This particular production will also evoke musical memories.
David Gordon, who has authored and performed highly acclaimed musical programs on “Pioneer History in Story and Song” at the Jacksonville Library, has assembled a wide variety of carols and holiday fare in both English and Welsh.
“Dylan Thomas’ words will make you see the Christmas of your youth,” said Danko. “David’s music will allow you to hear it.”
All performances will be offered free of charge. Seating will be first-come, first-served.
