Jacksonville Historic Cemetery Walking Tours – Cemetery Art
Cemetery Art – Symbolism and Inscriptions
Join us for a little after dinner stroll through the cemetery grounds and learn about the history of the various fraternal and religious organizations that make up the seven sections of Jacksonville’s Cemetery. We will also visit a number of grave sites in each of the sections and share the stories of those buried in this Silent City on the Hill. Other cemetery related topics will also be included. The tour will start promptly at 6:30 p.m. and conclude at 8:00 p.m.
Some walking is involved in both programs, History Saturday and the Evening Walking Tours, so be sure to wear comfortable walking shoes and dress for the weather. Tours and/or topics may not be suitable for children. Please meet your Docents at the Sexton’s Tool House at the top of Cemetery Road. Parking is available within the cemetery grounds.
No advance registration is required and while the tours are free, donations are greatly appreciated and help to support our educational programs, as well as on-going cemetery restoration and preservation work.
